Piracy Endures Where piracy is concerned, it's impossible to give credit where credit is due, and where pirates themselves are concerned, it's even harder. Piracy exists despite the difficulties involved in determining who started it and who's doing it now. The simplest answer is probably that everyone is doing it, racially speaking. There is not a single star-faring race that has never had a member caught raiding spice tankers or stealing from a gravity harvester. Even the quiet and contemplative Ximm have their dastardly bastards that prefer a hearty Arrrgh to an introspective Hmm. The skies are packed with pirates for one reason: once you get a ship, it's easy. Stay near the core and the second sphere where the strands are packed with ships, stake out a string for your own, face down a fat merchant vessel and force her into realspace, board her, and take what you like. There are other, more complex ways, but the simple ways work best. |
